San Ramon CA Faves - Book Stores - Bay Books
Bay Books is a family owned book store with a H-U-G-E inventory carrying new, used and rare books in their two locations, one in San Ramon CA and another in Concord CA. I've had the pleasure of browsing, shopping and selling used books there for several years. Today I spoke a bit with the owner, Diane Van Tassell about the inventory they carry. Bay Books carries the latest best-sellers in paperback and gently used books of all kinds...approximately 200,000 titles! As Ms. Van Tassell put it, "We try to have everything." The current used books are generally offered at half of list and the offering of rare books is market priced.
Bring the young readers in your family when you come as there is a tremendous selection of children's books. The store buys, on average "hundreds" of gently used books daily, so the selection is constantly changing. However, on any given day I challenge you to come in for a good read and leave empty-handed. It' s just not possible if you browse the diverse offerings.
Bay Books has a book club that meets the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 7 pm. Additionally, they host many, many author book signings each month. That schedule is posted online. The website is quite comprehensive and includes staff picks, series lists, award winners, book club information, book lists for children and teens and what's new.

Vickie's tip of the day-Bay Books generally has a couple of carts of hard back books just outside the door to catch the eye. These books are priced at $2 each! Readers, these racks will yield fine reading fiction and non-fiction reading options. Decorators and home stagers, grab a handful, remove the paper wraps and you have instant staging aids.
Hours are Mon-Fri 10-8, Saturday 10-7 and Sunday 11-6. Hours for book buying in San Ramon are 10-6 Monday-Friday and 10-5 on Saturday.
